Going on a holiday trip with your baby soon? Travelling with your little one is as exciting as it is nerve-wracking because you never know what can happen while you’re on the road, on a plane, or while you’re at a restaurant enjoying a nice meal.

That’s why you need to pack every essential item that your baby might need! We’ve put together a list of necessities when travelling with a baby to help you pack more efficiently.

From baby travel pillows to travel-sized baby wipes, use our guide below for a lovely and smooth journey with the entire family!

Travel Backpack

1. Travel backpack

The best backpack for travel is a sizable bag with multiple compartments that can carry all your baby’s items and some of your daily essentials.

For this one, prioritise functionality over aesthetics because most travel backpacks don’t always have the most flattering designs, especially for stylish mums.

Remember that this bag goes whenever you and your baby go, so it should also be comfortable at the very least!

Extra Clothes

2. Change of clothes

The general rule when travelling with a baby is to pack a few extra sets of comfortable and weather-appropriate clothes in case of spills, blowouts, or other accidents.

For example, if you’re going on a four-day trip, then it’d be good to bring an extra pair of clothes for each day of your trip.

Travel Cot

3. Travel cot

To make sure that your baby will have comfortable sleep, it’s best to bring your own portable travel cot since most accommodations don’t offer them. It will also keep them entertained when you’re not doing anything at the hotel.

The best baby travel cots should be as compact and lightweight as a carry cot and safe for newborns but size-appropriate for toddlers and older children.

Travel Pillows

4. Travel pillows

Whether you’re travelling by car, plane, or train, baby travel pillows will make sure that your little one is comfortable and well-rested for most of the journey.

Anything that involves hours of sitting can make babies irritable and fussy, but the right travel pillow hugging their bodies will keep them happy and calm.

Baby Wipes

5. Baby wipes

Another general rule when travelling with babies is you can never bring enough baby wipes! Make sure to get travel-size baby wipes so they won’t eat too much space in your bag.

You will need baby wipes more than you usually do when you’re out and about with your baby, mainly to wipe germs off their hands and clean them up after spills.

Baby Carrier

6. Baby carrier

A baby carrier is essential if you’re going somewhere that isn’t stroller-friendly, or you simply don’t want to go through the hassle of bringing a stroller while travelling.

Using a baby carrier will make exploring easier for you and your little one, but it might take a bit of getting used to for most mummies.

Toy Book

7. Toys and books

The long waiting hours at the airport and travelling long distances via car can bore anyone, let alone a baby.

To keep them entertained, bring a few of their favourite toys and books so they have something to do during the journey and on downtime.

Blanket

8. Blankets

If this is your baby’s first time travelling, give them something that will remind them of home, such as their favourite cosy blanket!

Additionally, blankets have many uses when you’re travelling, from keeping your baby comfortable during the trip to covering the window in case of strong sunlight.

Medical Record Concept

9. Medical records

Last but not least is your baby’s medical records. Some overseas destinations may still require proof of vaccination, especially for babies.

If your baby has any specific medical needs, make sure to carry a copy of their health records and any relevant medication with you at all times.
